The Rectory Quilters are a patchwork and quilting group based in New Milton in Hampshire we meet on the first and second Tuesday of the month at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church Hall. We are a membership organisation.
We have a waiting list for membership, if you would like to add your name please contact Jill at info@rectoryquilters.co.uk or go to 'Contact Us' page or click Contact Us and fill out contact form.
Rectory Quilters were originally a very small part of the 'Vicarage and Rectory Quilters' who met alternately at St Albans Church in Bournemouth and a quilter's home in New Milton. We were mostly mums with young families all in need of some time to relax, sew and enjoy some good company.
Soon the New Milton group began to grow and we were invited to meet in the Rectory at St Mary Magdalens and later hired a room in the church hall.
As our numbers gradually increased to about 17, it became more difficult to transport everyone to Bournemouth, to the joint meetings and it became apparent that it was time for us to become an independent group.
The group flourished and in 2003, following a successful exhibition, we doubled our membership to 38 and moved to a larger venue at Our Lady of Lourdes church hall.
Besides indulging our love of patchwork and quilting, we aim to use these skills to help others.
Every 3 years we have a 'Festival of Quilts, Flowers and Music'. Besides being a wonderful community weekend, we raise funds for several charities.
Last years festival (2009) raised £3,000 for Oakhaven Hospice and The Alzheimer's Society.
'Tea at 3' 2010 for Oakhaven Hospice in May raised £864.
'Tea at 3' 2011 for Oakhaven raised £910
We have supported Christina Nobel Children's Foundationand made a donation of £187.66
